Plastic Pollution and its Effects on the World

Plastic Pollution And Its Effects On The World

WALT: Write descriptively about plastic pollution.
About two weeks ago we had to write an explanation on plastic pollution, I had finished mine earlier around one and a half weeks ago. So this is my explanation, hope you found facts you never knew about before!

Plastic Pollution and its Effects on the World

Plastic pollution. A huge global topic. Everyones talking about it. Saying how it’s going to kill us all. But how many people act on their words? Or say ¨this problem is hurting our environment¨ and hardly ever make an effort in picking up rubbish. They say plastic pollution is a serious topic, which it is, but hardly ever act on these harsh problems. Here in this explanation, you´ll find the problems plastic pollution is creating, what plastic pollution is risking for us, and possible solutions.

Plastic, as we know, has already started taking a toll on our marine, and land life. It’s leaving the world a mess for the next generation to tidy up. A few marine animals plastic is killing include, sea turtles, toothed whales, seals, dolphins, fish, whales, crabs, sea birds, sharks, plus many more. Here is a list including on land creatures the plastic pollution is affecting, elephants, birds, turtles, kiwis, that’s a really shortened down list. Well over 1 million animals die each year from plastic pollution. Plastic pollution is risking so much for us if we don’t start taking action, who knows what the world would come to.

Plastic pollution is never a good thing. To convince you if you aren’t already convinced this paragraph will be holding facts on plastic pollution. There is already a hugely insane amount of plastic in our ocean, there is an estimated amount of over 100 million tonnes of plastic in the ocean. It’s also estimated there are approximately 8 million tonnes of plastic pollution making its way into our ocean every year. And 8 million pieces of plastic make its way every day. Approximately 11% of household waste is plastic, 40% of which is plastic bottles. Also, plastic cups take 50 - 80 years to decompose.

Possible solutions to help solve the ever-growing topic of plastic pollution might be a little similar to the list I have created. To try and stop the usage of plastic bags, try converting to paper or fabric bags. Maybe convert back into glass jugs for milk. So that cuts down the number of plastic milk bottles! The same with fizzy drinks in glass bottles, and if you return it, you get 5¢! Instead of using cling wrap, use Honey Wrap. Not only does that help the environment, but it smells amazing! Instead of plastic bottles, buy a normal water bottle, or if you want cold water (or hot tea) a thermos type bottle would work well for you! So now how to cut down the already existing plastic? Pick up plastic and repurpose it! You don’t have to though, hand it into the people who are, or just recycle it. That would do the world a big favour, and it’s as simple as going outside and hunting for plastic!

Plastic pollution can be very unruly on our planet. It hurts the Earth. But, we created it. We were the ones who first created the killing machine we call plastic. So, it’s not the birds’ fault they’re dying nor is it the turtles or whales or elephants. It’s ours. So we must fix the mistake we made. But who will make that change?
